Saudi’s E Commerce Leaps to 5.6 Billion Riyals

eCommerce is the most rapidly progressing industry in the world these days. Middle Eastern countries are also not behind in the race. Through their contribution, the eCommerce market has crossed 5.6 billion Saudi riyals. Besides the population of 30 million people, their handsome income is also responsible for the rise of e commerce in the country. 90 percent of the people residing in Gulf Coast Countries are Internet savvy.

In the year 2014, Saudi Arabia had only 3.9 million online shoppers. This number has increased to 10.6 million in the present times.

Saudi Arabian women are increasingly making use of Internet and shopping online. Of course, men dominate the world of online shopping with 61% but the number of female shoppers has considerably risen in the past few years.

In the year 2014, Saudi’s eCommerce industry was found to be progressing really well. Presently, there has been a huge rise in sales of fashion and clothing products. It has increased from 8% to 30%. Also, health and cosmetics sector has grown from 3% to 18%. This is perhaps related to the increase in the number of women shoppers.

The largest eCommerce categories are the airline tickets and electronic sectors with 39% and 38% respectively.

26 to 30 year old people are the most active age groups comprising of 46%. It was 18 to 25 year olds in the year 2014 with 30%.

People of Saudi Arabia are gradually developing their trust in e-payment methods and shifting to debit cards and credit cards from Cash on Delivery payment methods. In the present year, the use of debit and credit cards has gone up to 26% from 24% which is really noteworthy. COD has gone down to 59% from 76%.

The bottom line is that eCommerce market size of Saudi Arabia is likely to increase even more in the coming years.
