It is believed that most of the startup entrepreneurs do not talk openly about their well being. Once they experience failures, mental health issues begin. It is perhaps the workload or stress that causes depression among the entrepreneurs and many a times this leads to complete failure or even a suicide.
It is very important for entrepreneurs to accept their state of existence. This is a dream vs reality situation where you need to take the edge off.
Stop doing everything else and do the below things instead. You will be fine and who knows, all set for another beginning!
Depression will happen naturally when you fail. There is nothing to be ashamed of that or the failure itself. Treat it like a hurdle in your path and not as a defect. In fact, treat your experience in a very subjective way. You have tried something, and it did not go as planned. As simple as that.
To understand failures, it is important to interact with the failed. Talk to your colleagues, professional coaches or support groups. They will tell you how they have dealt with their failures. In fact, talk to the guy who had the exact same experience with running a startup. Entrepreneurship demands periods of intensity that aren’t sustainable. Remember that everyone is different and has a different limit. Know your own limits.
You have failed and the next thing that will happen immediately is the comparisons. The key is to be comfortable in your own skin. Stop dwelling on what others have done and how they have made things happen. Instead, know what works best for you.
Spend some time every day relaxing and focusing on your natural potential. You can even meditate for 30 minutes every day. This will soothe your brain and body. Spending time with yourself makes you analyse the situation right. Every day, give at least one hour to yourself to reflect.
Clarity first – it is your startup that had failed and not you. You are still here. It is good to keep the sense of responsibility but do not feel responsible for each and every thing.
Being a CEO of the company, you should define and articulate the norms and hire people to share and embrace those norms.
Have dinner with your spouse and talk about what happened in the day, what your plans are for the next day and what will happen the next month. There are no perfect solutions than this method for helping you to overcome feelings of stress and other issues.
Startups require continuous hard work, dedication and patience for years. It is not going to be an easy task. The success of a start-up depends on what you do and how you do it, no matter what difficulties and challenges you face. Start-ups will fail and succeed. This is very common and happens many a times. The key is to take care of your mental health during the times when things get traumatic and the noise goes up.
So, don’t let all your emotions and energy get wasted in this noise. Make it a point to focus on what you can control and how you can control, even when things go out of your control.
